Numerous small, opposing leaflets grow up small branches. Each plant has one or several upright stems that usually grow 1'-3' tall, but occasionally will reach 5'. Ball shaped clusters of white and yellow flowers become a bundle of flat, leathery seedpods in the fall. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes called a \"sensitive plant,\" its leaves will fold inward in response to being touched or to strong sunlight. It can tolerate most soil types, but not course sands or dense clay. Its high-protein seeds are edible when cooked, but offer little flavor on their own.
