Sedum spurium 'John Creech'
Sedum spurium, often called Caucasian stonecrop or two-row stonecrop, is a low-growing, sprawling plant that creates a lovely mat as it spreads, making it a popular choice for ground cover. This charming evergreen hails from the Caucasus region and typically reaches a height of just 3-6 inches while enjoying a spread of 18-24 inches thanks to its creeping, branching stems that easily root at the nodes. The thick, succulent leaves are arranged in pairs, featuring a unique obovate shape with wedge-shaped bases and a toothy edge at the tips.
Reddish-tinged margins beautifully highlight the medium green leaves, while the lower stem leaves are deciduous. The newer leaves near the tips maintain their evergreen beauty and transition to a deep burgundy in the fall, ensuring they remain vibrant throughout winter. The plant's unique name, "two-row stonecrop," comes from its delightful leaves that are neatly organized in two rows along the stems. From late spring to mid-summer, tiny, star-shaped, pinkish-red flowers bloom in dense, 4-branched clusters atop striking reddish flower stems, attracting butterflies and adding color to your garden.
‘John Creech’ is a charming small stonecrop that generally grows to just 2 inches tall but can quickly develop a dense mat of lush foliage due to its creeping stems that root easily at the nodes. With its small, scalloped green leaves, this variety brings a refreshing touch to your garden. You'll be delighted to see pink flowers rising above the foliage in the fall, brightening your landscape. John Creech, the former director of the U.S. National Arboretum, collected this special plant at the Central Siberian Botanic Garden back in 1971, adding a wonderful story to its charm.
These delightful plants thrive in acidic, average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils and love basking in full sun, though they can tolerate some light shade as well. They appreciate sandy or gravelly soils and are surprisingly resilient, thriving even in poorer soils. For best results, ensure good soil drainage, as they are quite drought-tolerant and prefer to stay on the dry side, so be careful not to overwater. When used as ground cover, you can space these plants about 12 inches apart, allowing them ample room to spread joyfully. They are also easy to propagate through cuttings or division; simply cut a leaf from a healthy sedum, leaving about 1-2 inches of stem, and plant it with the leaf sitting above the soil. In warm winter climates, these charming plants remain evergreen, bringing a touch of life to your garden year-round.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
