Correll's False Dragonhead

Physostegia correllii

Correll's False Dragonhead is an endangered, water-loving perennial that once occurred in several areas in Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico but is now restricted to two or three sites in Louisiana and one possible site in Travis County, Texas (Poole 2001; Singhurst 2001). Its current status in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Sonora, Mexico is unknown. Physostegia correllii bears lavender snapdragon-like flowers in July on tall slender stalks that can reach 7' tall, but more often only grow to about 4' tall.

Teucrium canadense

Commonly known as American germander, Canada germander, Canadian Germander, Hairy Germander, Wood Sage, Wild Basil.

A woody-based, clump-forming, rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial of the mint family. Each plant typically consists of a single, stout, hairy, square stem to 18-36” tall topped in summer by a terminal spike of purplish-pink flowers. It is native to moist woods, thickets and marshes in eastern and central North America. 

Leaves are aromatic when crushed and smooth to soft-hairy above and grayish-hairy beneath.  Flowers give way to rounded yellowish-brown seeds (nutlets).

Native Americans have used the leaves to make medicinal teas. Leaves are also steeped in water for use in healing sores and ulcers of the skin.
