Myrospermum sousanum

This rare tree is native to the border region of Texas and Mexico. It was only cataloged in 1982. The small, ornamental tree produces clusters of 10 or more white, pea-like flowers that smell delicious. The flowers and wood become strongly scented with vanilla and cinnamon. The tree can grow up to 10' - 20' tall and wide and has a multitrunked form. The light green compound leaves turn gold in the fall and are deciduous. It can adapt to temperatures as low as 15°F and moderate soil conditions.
