Our Story
We began our journey during the 2020 pandemic. When our co-founder Derek was furloughed from his corporate job in March of that year, he returned to gardening full-time to pass the time and reconnect with his memory of gardening with his grandparents. In an effort to attract more bees to the garden, he stumbled across a book about native bees, and he instantly became fascinated with them and their impact on not just our gardens but our environment and local ecosystems. As he began to search for native plants to attract the attention of native pollinators, he found it nearly impossible to find them, or at least a diverse selection.
In 2021, after a significant freeze, he noticed a friend's shrubs and plants were dead, along with multiple others, but the "farm" was thriving with the native plants he had planted the year before. He offered to redo their backyard free of charge using only native plants if he could use the photos in his portfolio. The rest, as they say, is history, as Native Gardeners was founded in August of 2021.
We are grateful for the opportunity to help bring native plants back into DFW landscapes, creating healthy, thriving ecosystems.
The farm is the name we lovingly gave to his grandmother's property, which is home to the Native Gardeners.
