Styphnolobium affine

Also known as Eve's Necklace, Eve's Necklacepod, Texas Sophora, Pink Sophora, Necklace Tree

Eve's Necklace" is a decorative tree that grows on limestone soils in the state's center, from north-central Texas through the Edwards Plateau. It has dark, shiny green leaves and a rounded to upright oval crown. In spring, it produces rosy-pink flowers that hang in clusters resembling wisteria, followed by fruit pods in late summer and fall that look like a black string of beads, giving the tree its common name. The seeds are said to be poisonous.

Eve's Necklace thrives in sunlight and shade and grows vine-like in dense woods. It is closely related to Texas Mountain Laurel (Sophora secundiflora).

For optimal growth, plant Eve's Necklace in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade and use it as an understory tree. Trees in full sun tend to be shorter in height than those in shaded areas. You can expect more abundant flowering when the tree is planted in full sun.

This tree is hardy in Zones 7 through 9. It can also be cultivated as a container plant in suitable locations and brought indoors during colder months. When you notice reduced growth, it's time to repot the tree, as it indicates that the container has become too small for the roots to spread properly.

Winter Shipping: We will continue to ship throughout winter. If you prefer, we are happy to hold your order until spring; please include that request in your shipping notes.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
