Forestiera angustifolia 'Pendula'
Common names include Weeping Elbow Bush, Weeping Desert Olive, and Woodlanders Weeping.
A member of the olive family native to the central, western, and southern regions of Texas, and on the Rio Grande Plains in mixed-brush coastal areas or open woodlands on dry, limestone, well-drained soils.
The angular branches have smooth, grey bark are covered in tiny, bright green leaves. Deciduous to semi-evergreen, and keeps a unique weeping structure all year long. An abundance of small, inconspicuous, petal-less flowers bloom in spring, typically before leaf emergence, and are an important early season nectar and pollen source for many insect pollinators. In mid-summer, oval-shaped berries appear that mature from green to dark blue-black and are attractive to many bird and mammal species. The fruit are edible to humans, but have an astringent flavor.
Plant in well-draining soil in full sun for optimal growth. While it appreciates regular watering, once established, it becomes very drought-tolerant and is a fantastic option for xeriscaping. Tolerant of heat, wind, high levels of salt, clayey, rocky and alkaline soils. Surprisingly, it's also fine in moist acidic soils, and seemingly has no garden conditions where it doesn't thrive. This relatively low-maintenance shrub is best pruned in late winter after the chill of extreme cold has passed.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
