Penstemon eatonii
Commonly known as Firecracker Penstemon or Eaton's Beardtongue, this perennial blooms bright scarlet red tubular-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds in spring and summer. The foliage features tough, green leaves and purplish stems. It is native to the western United States, from California to the Rocky Mountains, where it grows in many types of desert, woodland, forest, and open plateau habitats. This plant is excellent for rock, desert, and interior valleys. It is deer resistant and drought-tolerant.
