Oenothera speciosa, known affectionately as pink evening primrose, delights us with its fragrant, bowl-shaped pink flowers that boast four delicate petals and charming yellow anthers. These lovely blooms emerge from the upper leaf axils in springtime, turning into a beautiful rosy pink as they mature. While this vibrant perennial was originally found in the rocky prairies and plains stretching from Missouri and Kansas all the way down to Texas and Mexico, it has gracefully spread to many other places, including Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Florida. It typically grows between 10 and 24 inches tall, with stems that can stand upright or sprawl out and can spread 18 inches wide or more through its rhizomes. The medium green leaves are narrow and lanceolate to oblanceolate, occasionally adorned with small lobes near the bases. The flowers bloom in the evening and stay open until late morning, even lasting all day when the sky is overcast, followed by oval, ridged seed capsules after flowering.
On average, you'll find that these cheerful plants thrive wonderfully in dry to medium moisture and well-drained soils under full sun. They are quite adaptable, tolerating some afternoon part shade, drought conditions, and even poorer soils. Just remember, good drainage is key. Starting them from seeds sown outdoors in either fall or early spring is a breeze. Be mindful, as they can sometimes spread vigorously through their rhizomes and self-seeding, creating lovely large colonies that will brighten any garden.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
