Achillea millefolium
Common names include Common Yarrow, Western Yarrow, White Yarrow, Thousandleaf, Soldier's Woundwort, Bloodwort, Devil's Nettle, Sanguinary, Old Man's Pepper, and Milfoil.
A lovely evergreen perennial plant that spreads by rhizomes to forms mats of soft, feathery, fern-like foliage. The foliage grows to 12-18" tall. In Summer, tiny, long-lasting, white flowers appear in dense, flattened clusters on tall, sturdy stems up to 3' tall.
This species includes botanical varieties that are North American natives. However, it also includes botanical varieties that have hybridized with yarrow plants brought over from Europe and Asia during colonial times and have long since naturalized in North America. This has created a complex, widespread species often still considered native across much of North America due to its widespread presence and contribution to North American ecosystems. Its flowers are loved by native pollinators. Many butterflies are attracted to Yarrow nectar while numerous species of moths and beetles use the plant as a larval host.
Has many medicinal, first-aid, and skincare uses due to its many beneficial properties including antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic to name a few. Used as a tea to reduce fever and aid in stomach disorders. It can also be used topically as a poultice or slave for cuts, burns, and rashes, or used in a bath to relieve muscle pain and tension.
Best grown in lean, dry to medium, well-drained sandy loams. Plants do well in average garden soils and tolerate poor soils as long as drainage is good. Plants also tolerate hot, humid summers and drought. Yarrow's flowers stems often are floppy when planted in soils that are too moist and rich, especially in hot climates. Plants may be cut back to basal foliage after bloom. Plants spread aggressively by rhizomes and self-seeding, if left unchecked. Don't be afraid to divide and remove clumps as needed. Deer and rabbit resistant.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.

This is the second time I have bought the Yarrow. I live in Mont Belvieu and these plants have been very hardy. The larger ones seen in the photo are from last year and are beginning to bloom. This is my second purchase.

A great first experience! I could not find a nursey that carries a lot of native plants around Waco, so I decided to try this nursey out. The plants were delivered to me, and they arrived in excellent condition. Theywere packaged quite well, and I could tell that the plants were well cared for at the nursey. Despite extreme summer heat, the Yarrow transplanted well, though the foilage was wilted for the first week. I plan on doing some fall planting this year, and I look forward to purchasing some more hard-to-find plants here.

I have not planted White Yarrow before, but it was recommended to me for a part shade area in my yard. While I planted it in the midst of extremely hot and dry weather, it has done great with some supplemental watering. It looks like it's going to flourish once the weather cools a bit here.
