Maximilian's Sunflower is a stunning sight, proudly standing tall above the surrounding plants when it blooms. It loves to bask in full sunlight and thrives in dry to medium conditions. While Helianthus species can be a bit tricky to identify, H. maximiliani stands out with its unique leaf shape—it has beautifully folded leaves with gentle curves and fewer serrations on the edges, making it easier to spot. Much like its sunflower cousins, Maximilian's Sunflower is a favorite among various bees, butterflies, and moths, inviting them to visit.
Additionally, it's one of the special host plants for the Bordered Patch caterpillars. Just a heads up, though: many native sunflowers tend to spread quickly thanks to their rhizomatic nature, so they might not be the best choice for smaller garden spaces.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 10-15 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.

Plants of course vary in size. One straight as an arrow. A couple were bent. Some dead areas on stems pruned. Hopefully will grow well with moist soil after nice rain and snow two days ago. Warmed up enough to plant. Watered with rain barrel water. Growing in southwest Texas is challenging.

These plants were initially not sure about their new surroundings, but after two weeks of daily watering, they are now at home.
