Malvaviscus arboreus var. Drummondii ‘Pink’

This cultivar is also know as 'Pam Puryear'

This lovely shrub spreads beautifully, reaching a height and width of about 2-3 feet, sometimes even up to 9 feet! It boasts delicate, soft pink flowers that dangle gracefully, similar to hibiscus flowers, although they never fully bloom. Instead, their petals gently overlap to form a loose tube, with a stamen column peeking out. This charming shape gives the flower a delightful resemblance to a Turkish turban, which is why it's affectionately named Turk's Cap. It's a fantastic choice for those shady spots in your garden.

The variety of this plant honors Thomas Drummond, a dedicated naturalist from Scotland born around 1790. In 1830, he embarked on an adventure to America, eager to collect specimens from the western and southern United States. He spent over 21 months exploring Texas, collecting plants and bird specimens along the Brazos, Colorado, and Guadalupe rivers. Drummond identified over 750 plant species and 150 bird specimens, contributing greatly to museums and scientific institutions around the globe. Although he aspired to complete a botanical survey of Texas, his journey sadly ended in Havana, Cuba, in 1835 while he was collecting specimens on the island.

Turk's Cap is not only drought-tolerant but also thrives in partially shaded areas. It adapts well to various environments, including full sun and heavy soil. Just a heads-up: if exposed to too much sun, you might notice the leaves becoming a bit rougher, darker, and puckered. But overall, it’s such a resilient and rewarding plant.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
