Schizachyrium scoparium 'Chameleon'
Schizachyrium 'Chameleon' is one of the very few native ornamental grasses with variegated foliage. Green and white grass in spring and early summer, and in late summer and fall, the color slowly changes to vibrant purple and red, complemented by maroon flowers.
Also called Little Bluestem, Schizachyrium scoparium is native to much of the United States, where it grows in prairies, fields, and along roadsides. It is tolerant of heat and humidity and grows well in almost any soil. It thrives the most in poor, well-drained soil.
This amazing selection of little bluestem comes from French Nurseryman, Thierry Delabroye, who discovered it as a seedling of Schizachyrium scoparium 'The Blues'.
