Chihuahuan Sage (Leucophyllum laevigatum) is an evergreen shrub that requires minimal upkeep. It has a spiky yet loose form and produces periodic masses of fragrant lavender flowers that attract hummingbirds. The shrub appears like a large bouquet of pale bluish-lavender spikes during the summer blooming season. Unlike other Leucophyllum species, Chihuahuan Sage seems less reliant on humidity and warmth to blossom. Watering the plant thoroughly can encourage blooming.

Chihuahuan Sage thrives in full sun or light shade and is drought-tolerant once established. Providing supplemental irrigation once or twice a month during the hottest months will maintain a moderate growth rate and an attractive appearance. Pruning is unnecessary, as Chihuahuan Sage maintains a uniform, rounded shape.

This plant is an excellent alternative to Leucophyllum frutescens var. green cloud. It offers a slightly different flower color and a more open growth habit.
