Also known as Aromatic Aster, Aromatic American Aster, Fall Aster, Wild Blue Aster, Shale Aster.
Symphyotrichum oblongifolium is a lovely, bushy perennial that forms a charming mounding shrub in your garden. Its aromatic, gray-green leaves are delightfully soft to the touch. As autumn arrives, the foliage bursts into a cheerful display of lavender daisies that truly brighten up the landscape. These flowers are larger and even more eye-catching than typical asters, featuring an abundance of beautiful petal-like rays. This resilient plant thrives effortlessly in sunny spots and can handle dry conditions, making it a fantastic choice for any garden.
In the fall, the aster creates stunning purple mounds that beautify your outdoor space. It spreads gently through stolons, so it's important to thin it out now and then to keep it looking its best. If it becomes too dense, you might notice that it gets a bit sparse, so be sure to keep it nice and full by pruning back up to half of the plant in June. Once it goes dormant, hold off on cutting it back until late fall or early winter, when it's time to tidy up the basal rosette for the next season.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
