Tagetes lucida
Common names include Mexican Tarragon and Sweet Mace.
Tagetes, commonly known as Marigold, belongs to the sunflower or aster family and boasts 49 delightful species of flowering, herbaceous plants, characterized by their charming shrubby form. Native to the beautiful regions of Central and South America, these plants have found their way into gardens around the world! Specifically, Tagetes lucida thrives in the hillsides and woodlands of Mexico and South America, where it joyfully grows as a perennial. For those in cooler zones, it can be happily grown as an annual. You'll love its bright yellow composite flowers that bloom during late spring and early fall.
For planting, choose a sunny spot with light, well-drained soil—this little gem loves the light! It can adapt to most soil types, including clay, but be mindful that it doesn’t thrive in full shade and isn’t particularly cold-hardy. If you’re growing vegetables, consider pairing it with tomatoes, or plant it in an herb garden, at the front of a border, or along a lovely pathway or patio. Propagating by seed is quite simple, too!
Marigolds are not just pretty; they're also versatile! You can use the plant in tea, to add color to your dishes, or even as a substitute for Tarragon. Just be cautious, as eating large amounts can be harmful. Additionally, the juice, sap, or thorns can lead to a skin rash or irritation, so it’s best to wash any affected areas with soap and water right away after contact.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
