Common names include Texas Star Hibiscus, Scarlet Rosemallow, Crimson Rosemallow, Wild Red Mallow, Brilliant Hibiscus.
Texas Star Hibiscus is a resilient and upright perennial plant that usually reaches heights of 4 to 7 feet - and can even reach up to 10 feet in ideal conditions. With its sturdy, woody stems and lovely deep green hemp-like leaves measuring 5 to 6 inches wide, this plant is sure to catch the eye. From mid-summer to early fall, it displays large stunning scarlet red flowers, each 3 to 5 inches in diameter. Although it’s commonly known as Texas Star Hibiscus, this plant originally hails from the marshes and swamps of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
It is a favorite among hummingbirds and also attracts many butterflies. A larval host plant for the Gray Hairstreak, Painted Lady Butterfly, Common Checkered Skipper and Tropical Checkered Skipper butterflies. It’s also the host for four moths : Pearly Wood Nymph, Yellow Scallop Moth, Io Moth, and Delightful Bird-Dropping Moths.
Often referred to as swamp hibiscus, this plant appreciates medium to wet soil in full sun to dappled shade. While this plant can handle the summer heat and humidity, it’s important to keep the soil moist throughout the growing season to help it flourish. Can be cut all the way back to the ground at the end of winter; it will grow back from the roots in late spring.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
