Common names include Scarlet Beeblam, Crimson Beebalm, Eau-de-Cologne Plant, Oswego Tea, and Red Bergamot.
A clump-forming, mint family member that grows typically to 2-4' tall. The leaves have a minty fragrance, especially when crushed. Tubular, red flowers appear in dense tufts. Each flower head rests above a whorl of showy, reddish, leafy bracts. Flowers are attractive to hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. The aromatic leaves are often used in teas. Long summer bloom period.
Native to edges of stream banks, moist open woods, meadows, and ditches in Eastern U.S. and Canada. Best grown in rich, medium to wet, moisture-retentive soils in full sun to part shade (prefers part shade-dappled shade in Texas). Does best in well-draining conditions, but can tolerate heavier clay. Soil should not be allowed to dry out. Plants need good air circulation, as Scarlet Beebalm can be susceptible to powdery mildew. Has reportedly been used medicinally to expel worms and to treat gas, fever and stomach ailments. Can colonize by rhizomes. Divide every three years to control the spread and deadhead flowers if you want to prevent self-seeding.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
