Cornus drummondii
Cornus drummondii, often called rough-leaved dogwood, is a native dogwood species that's quite common in Texas. It's known for forming lovely thickets and can grow up to 6-15 feet tall and wide, especially in moist to wet areas. The plant's elliptical to rough oval leaves are what lend it its charming common name.
As spring rolls in, this plant surprises us with tiny yellowish-white flowers that bloom in beautiful flat-topped clusters. These flowers are reminiscent of gray dogwood (Cornus racemosa), although they don't have the flashy bracts of flowering dogwood (Cornus florida). After the flowering season, clusters of white drupes appear, maturing in late summer. These fruits are not only attractive to birds but are also considered to be quite ornamental, sometimes even surpassing the flowers in terms of beauty. The twigs showcase a lovely reddish-brown hue; in the fall, the color transforms into stunning shades of purple and red.
On the cultivation side, rough-leaved dogwoods are generally easy to grow in medium to wet soils, thriving in full sun to partial shade. They're quite adaptable and can handle a variety of soil types, even those that are less than ideal. In their natural habitat, they can even spread through underground stems, forming impressive colonies that add charm to any landscape.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
