Lampranthus spectabilis is a carpet-forming succulent shrub from the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Its 2” wide flowers have a ring of narrow petals in pink, red, magenta, or purple, circling a bright yellow center. The wiry stems grow horizontally and have small, finger-like fleshy leaves.
This species grows to about 12” and is often covered in flowers. Not surprisingly, Lampranthus spectabilis is widely cultivated as an ornamental, particularly in hot, arid climates. It is frequently featured in xeriscape gardens and stabilizing steep slopes and roadsides.
