Asclepias verticillata
Whorled Milkweed can bloom anytime between July and September, which is later in the year than many other Milkweeds. Clusters of approximately 20 white to greenish-white flowers bloom near the top of each plant. The nectar of the flowers attracts many kinds of insects, including long-tongued bees, short-tongued bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, skippers and beetles. Like all members of the Asclepias genus, Asclepias verticillata is a larval host plant for monarch butterflies. All Asclepias species are poisonous to human and animals in large quantities, however are essential to restoring Monarch butterfly populations.
Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, especially in Texas. Best in sunny locations with sandy loams. Drought tolerant once established. Will self-seed in the landscape if seed pods are not removed prior to splitting open. Likes hot dry soils, but tolerates moist garden soils. Plants will spread by rhizomes but not aggressively.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
