Carex cherokeensis, also known as Cherokee sedge, is native to the southeastern and south-central United States. It forms attractive clumps of fine-textured, narrow, grass-like, deep green leaves that slowly spread. While the greenish-white flowers in spring are not very noticeable, the wheat-like seed spikes that mature in autumn add visual interest.

Choose medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade to grow it. This plant thrives in moist soils but does well in average garden soils. In late winter, cut the foliage to the ground and remove it.
