 Vernonia lindheimeri

Woolly Ironweed is a herbaceous perennial that is native to Texas, Arkansas, and Mexico that thrives where conditions are tough. Its common name comes from its iron-like qualities – both durability and seed clusters the color of rust. This resilient plant can handle low fertility soil, dry climates, and resists deer and rabbits.

This plant is a host plant to the American Lady Butterfly, along with other butterflies, skippers, bees, and wasps. Growing from 2-3' tall with an upright habit, it has fine fuzzy foliage and pink to purple flowers that bloom from June to August. It needs well-draining soil.
