Also known as Blue Mistflower, Wild Ageratum, Blue Boneset
Conoclinium coelestinum, affectionately known as mistflower, is a delightful herbaceous perennial that bursts into bloom from late summer through fall. Native to the Eastern United States, it shares a resemblance with annual ageratum and is sometimes lovingly referred to as hardy ageratum; however, it truly stands out as a perennial that can spread quite proudly via rhizomes. Typically, this charming plant grows to heights of 1-2 feet, showcasing its lovely downy purplish stems and coarsely-toothed, ovate-deltoid leaves that can reach up to 3 inches long. Its flowers are part of the aster family and do not have ray petals. From July to October, you can enjoy a multitude of small, fluffy, tubular blue-purple flowers that are about 1/2 inch across, blooming in dense, flat-topped terminal clusters known as corymbs. It’s often referred to as blue boneset, and interestingly, Conoclinium coelestinum is synonymous with Eupatorium coelestinum.
This plant establishes itself beautifully in average, medium to wet, well-drained soils, thriving under the warm embrace of full sun to part shade. It truly loves moist, fertile, humusy soils that stay nice and damp. Mistflower is a vigorous little grower, spreading happily through rhizomes and self-seeding. In some regions of the U.S., this vibrant plant is considered to be a spreading weed. For those looking to propagate, simply divide clumps in early spring! These delightful plants thrive in wet areas, and for taller specimens, trimming them back in summer can help prevent them from flopping over.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
