Hibiscus coccineus
Hibiscus coccineus is a vibrant and sturdy perennial that typically grows between 3 to 6 feet tall. It showcases breathtaking, red flowers that resemble hollyhocks, with about five petals each, ranging from 3 to 5 inches wide. These lovely blooms appear in the upper leaf axils from mid-summer to early autumn, giving a colorful display for quite some time. If you’re looking for a pure white version, the White Texas Star is a stunning choice! Its white flowers are eye-catching and attract delightful pollinators like hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.
Throughout the summer, this plant produces magnificent 6-inch pinwheel flowers on strong stems, complemented by finely cut, rich green foliage that remains vibrant into the fall. Each flower has a striking center staminal column that really stands out. The deep green leaves, which are palmately compound and about 5 to 6 inches wide, have a wonderful texture that adds to the plant's appeal. It’s often referred to as swamp hibiscus since it thrives in marshy areas across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
This lovely plant flourishes in medium to wet soil, basking in full sun or partial shade. It does best in bright sunlight or light shade; just keep in mind that too much shade can lead to legginess and fewer blooms. While it can handle summer heat and humidity, ensuring the soil stays moist during the growing season is key. Once established in your garden, this beauty becomes somewhat drought-resistant, allowing you to enjoy its splendor with less worry!

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
