Tecoma stans var. angustata 'Sangria'
A vibrant, deep orange version of Yellow Bells is a charming, irregularly shaped deciduous shrub that typically stands 3 to 6 feet tall in the US. However, varieties from warmer regions can reach heights of 9 feet! This delightful plant features several stems and slender, upright branches adorned with clusters of large, trumpet-shaped, deep orange flowers, brilliantly contrasting with the lance-shaped olive-green leaves. Its long, thin pods add to its appeal in autumn, making it stand out. The natural habitat of this plant is quite extensive, stretching from sunny south Texas all the way to Arizona and down through Mexico, Central America, and even to northern Argentina. It also thrives in southern Florida and throughout much of the Caribbean. Among the native plants of the southwestern US and adjacent Mexico is Tecoma stans var. angustata, which is a bit shorter and exhibits greater drought and cold tolerance than some of the tropical varieties often found in nurseries.
Anyone lucky enough to witness this plant in full bloom can easily see why it’s affectionately named Yellow Bells, with its stunning yellow blossoms that draw everyone's attention. It has earned its place as a cherished landscaping choice, appreciated for its striking looks and impressive drought resilience.
North American native varieties of this species are quite hardy and can endure winters within their natural range, although they may die back to the ground during especially harsh winters. On the other hand, nursery varieties may originate from tropical stock and might struggle with the colder conditions in the US. Thankfully, Yellow Bells are drought tolerant, and the Southwestern varieties are well-suited for monsoon seasons, thriving in dry spells in between. To help them flower beautifully, try to mimic these conditions in your landscape by allowing the ground to dry out between waterings. They also adapt well to pot confinement, provided the containers are 12 inches long, making them a fantastic potted specimen.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
