Agave attenuata x Agave ocahui
Agave Blue Glow is a charming smaller Agave that forms lovely solitary rosettes. This delightful plant grows about 2 feet tall and spreads up to 3 feet wide, showcasing its beautiful blue-green leaves that measure 18 inches long and 1 to 1.5 inches across. Each leaf features striking red margins edged with cheerful yellow, adorned with tiny, soft spines and a stout, short red terminal spine. When it matures, this plant proudly produces a remarkable 10-foot-tall, unbranched, reddish flower spike. Sometimes, this spike stands alone, while at other times, it is accompanied by several smaller spikes that reach 2 to 3 feet tall, all dressed in elegant greenish-white flowers with long red stamens.
Agave 'Blue Glow' is thought to be a lovely hybrid of Agave attenuata and Agave ocahui, reportedly developed by Kelly Griffin during his time at Rancho Soledad Nursery in Rancho Santa Fe. Despite its unique lineage, the plant has a character all its own, looking quite different from either parent. It seems to inherit the durable, more rigid leaves and sharp terminal spine from Agave ocahui, while enjoying the broader leaves and beautiful blue-green hues from Agave attenuata.
For optimal growth, plant Agave Blue Glow in full to part sun in well-draining soil. It’s a low-maintenance gem that thrives with little irrigation and shines beautifully in containers or groupings, especially where backlighting can highlight its cheerful red and yellow margins. Plus, its delightful flowers are a favorite among birds and bees.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
