Agave lechuguilla

Lechuguilla showcases beautiful yellow-green, succulent rosettes that grow between 1 to 2 feet tall, producing delightful offshoots along the way. Its thick, leathery leaves, adorned with sharp spines, add character to this unique plant. It takes about 12-15 years for lechuguilla to gather enough nutrients to support a tall flower stalk that can stretch as high as 15 feet! Because of its unbranched, flexible nature, the stalk often bends gracefully under the weight of its buds and flowers, creating a lovely arc. The upper portion of the stalk bursts forth with lovely purple or yellowish blooms. After sharing its beautiful flowers and seeds, the stalk’s life comes to an end.

During the early exploration of the Southwest, this sturdy plant was known to pose a bit of a challenge. Its sharp leaves could easily pierce a horse's leg, and riders needed to be cautious to avoid a mishap if they tumbled. Thankfully, most horses familiar with the area learn to dodge these prickly plants.

In the case of lechuguilla, the charming yellow-green rosettes thrive and quickly create offshoots. The branches flaunt thick, leathery leaves, each tipped with sharp spines. After 8-20 years, a stunning cluster of flowers blooms in hues ranging from yellow to pinkish-white on a stalk that rises elegantly from the center of the rosette. Once the plant has set its fruit, its life cycle concludes. Plants like agaves are frequently cherished in rock gardens, where they flourish even in poor, acidic soil.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
