The Anacacho orchid tree, while a delightful find at specialty nurseries, remains quite rare in Texas. You can spot it growing in the picturesque Anacacho Mountains just west of Uvalde and a couple of other small locations, although it’s more commonly found in Mexico. The tree showcases delicate leaves divided into pairs of oval leaflets and bursts forth with vibrant white or pink flower clusters that resemble orchids from March through May.
In Texas, this lovely tree naturally thrives in the rocky limestone canyons, favoring well-drained soils. While it’s winter hardy in Austin, those further north may want to plant it in a cozy, protected, south-facing spot, as some limbs might still be lost in particularly harsh winters. Its unique foliage and dazzling flowers truly make it a stunning addition, whether as a specimen or a container plant in smaller gardens.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.

I am thrilled with the orchid tree ordered for me. When it came in, I went to pick it up. Of course I found other plants I couldn't live with out A bamboo muhly, white indigo and a fabulous rare palmeri abutilon! I'll be back. Love all the native plant selection.

This was a gift for my niece -- sent to Vail, AZ. The plant arrived on time in wonderful condition. She has planted it into a pot -- and it is thriving.
Something went amiss during shipment and the tree arrived in pretty rough shape. The good folks at Native Gardeners have been WONDERFUL however, and are working with me to see if it can be restored, by my own choice. If it can’t, they have already assured me that they will send a replacement. I just hate to lose anything, so we’re trying first for a recovery. Fingers crossed!
I have grown this beautiful tree for many years in Bosque County, TX. It has done so well here. It can get really cold here in the winter but it has never bothered this tree. It greens up every spring and has beautiful white flowers. I even have little ones coming up along side the large one. I would highly recommend this tree - it has no downside. As I have told you before thank you for providing us with these beautiful natives - they are so difficult to find and you are to be congratulated!!
I was expecting 1 tree, but received 2 smaller ones. That's ok by me. Hoping that I won't kill them, lol. So hard to find native trees in my area and am happy to have found this site.
Planted in the Las Vegas, NV area on Febr. 17th. In the ground exactly three weeks before it started to bud out. Lots of small green buds over all the branches now. We'll see what it looks like at the end of September.
My orchid tree arrived timely and was well packed. Immediately took it out of box and leaves looked good. Thought it would be in a pot, but was in several bags with dirt. They were sealed tight. Tree still looks good a couple weeks later.
Plant was easy to track in transit. It arrived intact and was rehydrated and then planted in my garden. It's adjusting very well to its new growing conditions!
The tree arrived looking so healthy. I was concerned because soon after ordering temps started hitting 100. Since I am afraid to plant it directly in the ground with all the heat, I placed it in a pot and will keep it there until fall, keeping it out of the hot afternoon sun.
