Calylophus drummondianus

The "Southern Belle Sundrop" is a Texas native plant and belongs to the Evening Primrose family Onagraceae. It has the delicate nature of a Southern Belle but is also very hardy and can tolerate drought. This evergreen, bushy subshrub brightens your garden, thriving in full sun or partial shade and preferring well-drained soil. The plant grows woody at the base and has herbaceous stems that reach 18 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Its papery, bright yellow flowers bloom almost year-round, making it an excellent choice for adding vibrant color to your landscape.

This plant is commonly found in the prairie grasslands of Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and New Mexico and is highly tolerant of heat and cold. It spreads by rhizomes and creates a colorful carpet when planted with other perennials with similar water requirements, such as rosemary, sage, and lavender. Your garden will be filled with vibrant yellow flowers, attracting birds, bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
