Phyla nodiflora

Also known as Texas Frogfruit, Turkey Tangle, Fogfruit.

Frogfruit makes a fantastic ground cover and stays evergreen in warmer years or in areas protected from frost. It spreads assertively in both fun sun and part shade. This charming plant looks lovely as it cascades over boulders or the edges of hanging baskets, and it’s quite resilient and able to handle both drought and flooding.

An important host plant to the Phaon Crescent, White Peacock and Common Buckeye butterflies and a nectar source for many pollinators including hummingbirds. Belongs to the verbena family (Verbenaceae).

Though very drought tolerant, watering during dry seasons keeps it more vibrant. Handles foot traffic and mowing. However, it's best mow while the plant is not in bloom.

Spring Shipping:

Orders are shipped within 10-15 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.

I purchased 80 4” frog fruit plants and they were all super healthy and thriving since I planted them. These are on the north side of the shop so they get very little sun, but I hope they continue to spread, choke out the weeds and create a nice mass of erosion control on this slope.

My frogfruit plants (gallon) arrived in mid-June healthy, beautiful and carefully-packed. I transplanted them within 24 hours of receiving them, and they are doing great. The attached photo was taken a week after planting. I bought six plants and they are all doing equally well. Full disclosure: I applied mycorhrrizal innoculant to the roots when I transplanted them. I'm 100% satisfied with the purchase and the care taken with packing and shipping.

All 20 frog fruits were alive and well! I had to untangle them a bit but they seem to be doing well after a week in the ground.

I added earth worm castings and compost to the hole for the plant. I directly planted it the next day. I have hard caliche soil so I made sure to water every day so that it could breathe but nothing worked.

I ordered three 1-gallon frog fruit plants and was really impressed with the quality. The plants arrived extremely healthy with strong root systems and were clearly well cared for. I’ve planted them under my oak trees and around some limestone boulders, and they’re already looking vigorous and happy. Looking forward to seeing them spread and fill the space. Highly recommend Native Gardeners.

All plants arrived in good condition, but haven’t been put in the ground due to the recent extreme weather. Guess we’ll have to wait a bit to find out how they go.

All the little plants are green, despite the 100 degree heat! It's only been one week since I planted them, so I wasn't expecting much growth yet. I'll take a picture and send it once they take off!

So we planted 6 frog fruit plants about 11 months ago. It has taken over a 40 x 6 ft space and still growing. It is aggressive, but easy to control. Pollinators LOVE it; I count 5 different bee and 3 different butterfly species on it daily. Was definitely a great recommendation by the Native Plants nursery staff. Just received our Pollinator Habitat from Xerces.org; highly recommend this group if you are into native p!ants and pollinators.

Very prompt delivery. Thoughtful packaging, recyclable or compostable. I haven’t planted them yet. But they are holding up great in the 4” containers.

I had never considered this ground cover before. I bought a few just to see how they would look. With some concern I planted them during the heatwave when it was over 100 everyday. They had also been shipped to me during this heat. They took very fast without excessive watering or special care. I guess it really does love the heat. This plant grows fast. I’ll be getting more.

Customer photo review of Frog Fruit

The Frog Fruit arrived safe and sound. It took a couple of weeks to get going, but now I have flowers. In the picture, you see where I made room for it to grow. However, it’s growing in the opposite direction. I’m trying to train it, but I have come to the conclusion it’s really Frog Fruit Cat grass. Stubborn. Picky. Or, it’s teenager Frog Fruit and just obstinate

Frog Fruit

I like the frogfruit a lot. But I just planted and too early to really give the results of what I think. I am hoping it will be all I hoped for….but we shall see.

Frog Fruit Plants arrived and planted. All thriving in my hard caliche ground. I'm amazed.

Frogfruit

Second time to order some of these, and they have done great!

Frogfruit

They arrived in excellent condition. A little shock from transplanting, and the hot Texas sun, but they have all rebounded, and are spreading now.

It's not doing anything yet. Like anything. Still a complete block in potting soil. Hoping it just needs a little time.

I wanted to add this native ground cover to a newly created bed, but could not find it locally. The plants arrived green and healthy and so far seem to be doing well.

Plants were very healthy when they arrived.

Frogfruit

The plants arrived in the time expected. They were packed securely so I opened them up promptly and watered all. Soon they perked up and looked great. I have since planted them and they are growing very nicely and looking healthy and lovely.

Frogfruit

Nice long trails on plant. Looks heathy. Seems to be thriving. Excited to see how it spreads and grows.

Frogfruit

The 10 plants came quickly and were well packaged. They survived the shipping and sitting in our garage for about a week before planting. They look like strong plants. We'll see in a few weeks how they grow. I've ordered more to fill in the rest of the area.
