Hydrangea quercifolia' Brenhill.'

The oakleaf hydrangea, also known as Hydrangea quercifolia, is a lovely deciduous shrub that hails from the southeastern United States. It typically grows between 4 to 6 feet tall but can tower up to 8 feet! This delightful shrub is cherished for its stunning, cone-shaped clusters of white flowers that bloom in the summer atop branches adorned with large, oak-like, dark green leaves.

The name "Hydrangea" originates from the Greek words "hydro" meaning "water" and "angeion" meaning "vessel," which wonderfully describes the cup-shaped fruit of the plant. The specific epithet "quercifolia" comes from Latin, translating to "oak leaf"—a perfect way to characterize the unique shape of the plant's leaves.

One charming cultivar, 'Brenhill,' stands out as it’s smaller than other oakleaf hydrangeas but gifts us with impressively large flowers. The pure white blooms are held proudly above the foliage, making it a fantastic choice for cozy gardens! These flowers can thrive in different soils since they aren't affected by soil pH.

Oakleaf hydrangeas love to settle down in organically rich, well-draining soil with medium moisture and can bask in both full sun and shade. They do best in moist soil and appreciate a layer of summer mulch to help keep that moisture around. Pruning is rather easy, generally just after flowering, though you can snip any winter-damaged stems in early spring. If you live in colder climates like USDA Zone 5, it’s a great idea to offer them some winter protection, such as mulching or wrapping in burlap, as those chilly winters can sometimes lead to flower bud loss or plant damage.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
