Hesperaloe parviflora

Hesperaloe parviflora, commonly known as red yucca or hummingbird yucca, is a delightful evergreen perennial succulent that resembles yucca. This charming plant hails from the stunning Chihuahuan desert in western Texas and northeastern Mexico, where it thrives in various environments like deserts, prairies, rocky slopes, and mesquite groves.

While it's a relative of yuccas, it actually belongs to the century plant family instead. You’ll notice its elegant, narrow, sword-like blue-green leaves growing in lovely clumps that can spread up to 6 feet wide, with individual leaves reaching lengths of 2 to 3 feet. These evergreen leaves can display a striking purple or reddish-bronze hue in colder winter climates, and each one features unique thread-like hairs along the edges.

The plant showcases tall red flower stalks, 4 to 6 feet high, adorned with tubular red to pink flowers that beautifully rise above the foliage. In colder climates, the flowers bloom from early to mid-summer, often reappearing into fall, while in warmer winters, you might see them blooming even earlier, bringing joy to hummingbirds throughout the year.

Red yucca loves to bask in full sun and flourishes in dry, sandy, sharply drained soils. Surprisingly, it’s quite hardy, even in USDA Zone 5! Just make sure it has excellent soil drainage to thrive. This resilient plant is not only heat and drought resistant but also self-seeds in the landscape, can be propagated through clump division, and adapts well to urban environments.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
