Lantana urticoides (L. horrida)

Common names include Texas Lantana, Calico Bush

Texas lantana beautifully graces many Texas landscapes, thriving across a variety of soils, especially along the stunning coastline and in neighboring Louisiana, Mississippi, and Mexico. This charming, low-growing shrub features rough, aromatic leaves and flourishes even in poor, sandy, or gravelly soils, making it perfect for hot and dry areas—whether basking in full sun or enjoying a bit of light shade. In southern Texas, you might notice its branches die back during winter, only to gracefully return in spring. Pruning after frost and occasionally during the growing season helps keep its shape neat and compact, allowing it to bloom beautifully on fresh growth. During the mid-to-late summer, the lantana puts on a delightful show with clusters of tiny red, yellow, and orange flowers that brighten up any garden.

While its leaves are poisonous, don’t let that deter you! The nectar of this lovely plant attracts cheerful butterflies, and its berries are a tasty treat for birds. Lantana is an excellent choice for sunny, low-maintenance spots. Once it settles in, it requires only a little care, rewarding you with a continuous display of flowers from mid-summer and bringing in butterflies to create a lively scene.

Spring Shipping:

Orders are shipped within 10-15 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
