Platanus mexicana

The " Mexican Sycamore” has gracefully made its way into Texas landscapes over the past decade, bringing a vibrant charm. Its impressive resistance to bacterial leaf scorch stands out as a wonderful alternative to the American sycamore. This delightful tree thrives in alkaline soils and is generally free from insects and diseases. One of the many beautiful features of the Mexican Sycamore is its remarkable drought tolerance, allowing it to hold on to its lovely leaves well into the fall.

Speaking of leaves, they are large and maple-shaped, with a bright green on top and a soft, fuzzy white underside that adds a unique touch. Growing up to 50 feet tall and spreading 30 to 40 feet wide, this rapidly growing deciduous tree is native to the enchanting regions of central and northeastern Mexico. Its striking white trunk, adorned with peeling bark, transforms the tree into a living work of art, becoming more intricate and beautiful as it ages. Once established, these trees thrive with drought resilience, but like all trees, they truly appreciate some extra water during their first few years and in drier spells. They also flourish wonderfully in wet soils, making them a versatile choice for any landscape.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
