Also known as Red Buckeye, Scarlet Buckeye, Firecracker Plant
Aesculus Pavia, also known as the red buckeye, is a deciduous shrub or small tree that forms charming clusters. Usually reaching heights of 10 to 20 feet, this lovely plant blooms in spring with magnificent erect panicles of flowers that range from red to orange-red, each measuring 4 to 10 inches long. Its palmately compound leaves, which are shiny and dark green, look stunning in spring and early summer, although they do start to fade a bit by August. In the fall, smooth, light brown, rounded seed capsules, each about 1 to 2 inches in diameter, hold 1 to 3 shiny seeds known as buckeyes. Just a heads-up: these seeds can be poisonous, so most wildlife tends to steer clear of them.
For the best results, grow this beauty in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil with a mix of full sun and part shade. It especially loves moist, fertile soils. Do keep in mind that the foliage can scorch and decline in dry conditions, so giving it a little afternoon shade during those hot summer days can work wonders. You can even grow it from seed, with the chance for beautiful flowers starting as soon as the second or third year.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
