Autumn sage is a low-growing shrub typically reaching 2-3 ft. tall, showcasing small, aromatic, minty green leaves that remain evergreen in warmer regions. Its flowers appear in racemes from spring until frost and can come in red, pink, purple, orange, or white. This plant naturally thrives from south-central and west Texas down to San Luis Potosi in Mexico, primarily found on rocky slopes.
A favored choice for landscaping in the Southwest, Autumn sage serves beautifully as a small ornamental flowering shrub within a perennial garden or as a low hedge. Its fragrant leaves invigorate the senses, while its blossoms attract hummingbirds. In the wild, the flowers predominantly bloom in red, but this varies geographically, with some regions notably showcasing pink, orange, purple, and white blooms, along with various shades in between. Breeding has expanded the color palette, resulting in numerous cultivars. It is free from diseases and pests, and drought-resistant; fertilization is unnecessary once it is established.
Autumn sage requires a well-drained location and cannot thrive in shrink-swell clay soils. To improve drainage, incorporate organic materials and amendments into clay soils, and if possible, position it on a slope. While generally cold hardy, it becomes deciduous in areas with harsh winters, though some cultivars flourish even in Oklahoma and Colorado, far beyond their native habitat. It is best to avoid planting it in high foot traffic areas, as its stems are quite brittle.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
