Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood'

Sedum spurium, often lovingly referred to as Caucasian stonecrop or two-row stonecrop, is a charming, low-growing plant that forms delightful mats, making it a wonderful choice for ground cover. This lovely evergreen hails from the picturesque Caucasus region. Typically, it reaches a height of 3-6 inches but can happily spread wide—up to 18-24 inches—thanks to its creeping, branching stems that easily root where they touch the soil.

The variety 'Dragon's Blood' showcases beautiful, fleshy leaves that are bright green with lovely burgundy edges, turning a stunning bright red in the fall. These leaves are arranged in two pretty rows along the stems, which gives it its other nickname, the two-row stonecrop. During summer, it bursts into clusters of small, ruby-red, star-shaped flowers that add vibrant charm to any garden.

Caucasian stonecrop thrives best in acidic, average, dry to medium moisture, and well-drained soils, ideally basking in full sun. It can handle a bit of light shade too and has a preference for sandy or gravelly soils, demonstrating its ability to flourish in less-than-perfect conditions. Just be sure it has good drainage and watch out for overwatering, as this plant is quite drought-tolerant. For lovely ground cover, space them about 12 inches apart, and you'll see how quickly they spread! You can easily propagate them through cuttings or division, making them a fun choice for any garden. While it stays evergreen in milder winter climates, it may lose its leaves in chillier areas, adding a seasonal character to your landscape.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
