Baileya multiradiata var. thurberi

Also known as Desert Marigold, Showy Desert Marigold, Paper Daisy, Desert Baileya

The showy desert marigold is a lovely mound-shaped biennial or short-lived perennial that reaches heights of 12-18 inches. This cheerful daisy-like plant creates stunning mounds of bright yellow flowers. Rising above the soft, woolly gray foliage, the long-lasting flowers add a vibrant touch. Each branch sports several nearly leafless flower stalks, with the lower half of the plant being beautifully branched and leafy, topped with delightful yellow blooms in neat clusters. As the flowers mature, they gain a lovely papery texture, and they tend to bloom sporadically over an extended period.

Dense patches of yellow can often be seen gracing miles of desert roadsides, creating a joyful sight. In gardens, these plants form perfect yellow hemispheres that brighten up the landscape throughout summer and fall.

In a kind tribute to Mary, the name "Marigold" is given to several species of Asteraceae that showcase sunny yellow or orange flowers.

Desert marigolds thrive in poor, dry soils and can endure extreme heat. However, if the soil is overly wet, they may be at risk for crown rot. During favorable conditions, these charming flowers will self-sow, and their seedling rosettes will develop buds after a chilly dormancy period, ready to burst into bloom once again!

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
