Also known as Rio Grande Butterflybush, Tepozan
The Rio Grande Butterfly Bush is a plant that's native to the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Arizona, and central and northern Mexico. You'll typically find it thriving in thorn savannahs, forests, riparian zones, and even along roadsides, especially close to the beautiful Rio Grande. This butterfly bush isn’t just a pretty face; it offers amazing benefits too! It's perfect for residential landscaping or for adding a splash of beauty to community butterfly and nectar gardens. From spring through summer, its lovely flowers provide a delightful nectar feast for butterflies, moths, bees, insects, and hummingbirds.
To help it flourish, plant it in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil, and remember to give it some water every week during the summer months. This shrub can reach an impressive height of 6 ½ feet and can spread just as wide, with its graceful arching branches that gracefully drape down to the ground. If you take a closer look, you'll be enchanted by the clusters of hundreds of tiny pale-yellow blooms nestled at the leaf axils. The leaf blades have fine hairs that lend the shrub a beautiful silvery hue, and those delightful flower clusters bring a pleasantly earthy scent to your garden!

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
