Eysenhardtia Texana

Common Names: Texas Kidneywood, Kidneywood, Bee Brush, Vara Dulce, Palo Dulce

Texas kidneywood is a shrub that can grow between 3 to 10 feet tall, with a lovely, open structure. The 3 to 4-inch spikes of white flowers not only bring beauty but also fill the air with their sweet scent, complemented by the finely divided, deciduous leaves which, when crushed, release a burst of aroma. The flowers bloom intermittently from May to October, followed by small fruit pods, often topped with a threadlike tip. These seed pods stick around for a while, too. This tree is named for the place it has found in traditional remedies for kidney and bladder issues. With a little care and thoughtful pruning, you can shape this plant into a petite tree. It might lose some leaves during dry spells, but rest assured, it's quite drought-tolerant.

Butterfly Host Plant: Southern Dogface (Zerene cesonia); Arizona Skipper (Codatractus arizonensis)

Nectar Source: Bees, Butterflies

Spring Shipping:

Orders are shipped within 10-15 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.

Store owner replied: Hi Daniel, Thank you so much for your feedback! We take pride in our packing and we are so happy to hear that everything arrived safely. Thank you again for your business. Native Gardens

The plants came well packaged but dry. I don't think that will hurt as had spots picked out and plants dug in same day. A few yellow leaves on day two one of the plants. We will see how they do in the south Texas heat. It is a bit early to be doing a review on them imo.

I live in Houston and had ordered 2 Kidneywood plants. I was kept informed about when they expected to receive the plants I had ordered. When they were sent they were in excellent shape and the packing kept the plants in place nicely. I look forward to many years of beautiful blooms on my Kidneywood plants. S. Thompson

The four 5-gallon Texas Kidneywood trees arrived meticulously packaged and in excellent shape. I was concerned about how they would survive the journey to Austin, but I now have complete confidence that you have this process figured out! Thank you.

Texas Kidneywood

The more I study this plant the better I like it. Unfortunately some animal dug the newly planted little guy up and I didn’t see it until I got home from my part-time job at 2:00 in the afternoon and the poor thing was mostly dry and dead. There’s just enough green left for us to give it a chance to recover. I foolishly neglected to protect it immediately after planting and so it is all my fault! If we need to we are going to wait until either this fall or next spring to replace him.

Texas Kidneywood

I was very impressed with the packing and condition of the tree when arrived. It was head and shoulders above any other plants/tree I have purchased online.

Texas Kidneywood

I called several nurseries in East Mesa, Arizona. Most didn’t know the Texas Kindney tree. One tried to have me sign up with their professional landscaper. The other lost their source to the tree. I’m so very grateful that I found it here and it was shipped to me. It was absolutely the best packaging I’ve seen done for a plant, thank you! The tree has been planted in the correct location with cage around it to protect it from wildlife. Thank you so much I researched this tree out before purchasing it, it’s perfect!
