Cercis canadensis var. texensis 'white'
Var. texensis, formerly called Cercis reniformis, is a lovely variety of eastern redbud that's native to the sunny regions of Oklahoma and Texas. This charming tree has a compact shape, typically growing to about 15-20 feet tall when fully matured. It's a bit tougher than its predecessor, showing a greater ability to endure drought, and its buds and flowers bloom in a striking, dark, wine-red shade. The leaves are not just thicker but also glossier and broader, with a deep green color and a delightful kidney-shaped outline. You'll notice that the leaf tips are gently rounded or blunt, adding to their unique character, and they can brave winter temperatures as low as USDA Zone 6, while the original species prefers a milder Zone 4.
This tree is a joy to grow in average, medium-moisture, well-drained soils and can thrive in full sun to part shade. For best results, it loves moderately fertile soils that stay consistently moist, so it’s best to steer clear of overly wet or poorly drained areas. Additionally, it’s a bit sensitive to transplanting, so planting it while it's young and keeping it settled in one spot will help it flourish.

Winter Shipping: We will continue to ship throughout winter. If you prefer, we are happy to hold your order until spring; please include that request in your shipping notes.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
