Parthenocissus quinquefolia

Parthenocissus quinquefolia, often referred to as Virginia creeper or woodbine, is a wonderfully fast-growing deciduous vine that you can find thriving in eastern and central North America, all the way down to Mexico. This impressive plant can reach heights of 30-50 feet or more without needing any support. Thanks to its clever adhesive holdfasts at the ends of its tendrils, it effortlessly clings to surfaces like brick, stone, or wood walls. True to its name, it can also spread along the ground.

The leaves are lovely, starting as a deep purple in the spring, transforming into a mellow green in summer, and then delighting us with stunning shades of purple and crimson red in the fall. Late spring to early summer brings greenish-white flowers that peek out from the upper leaf axils, though they often stay hidden among the foliage and aren’t particularly showy. Come autumn, the flowers make way for little blue-black berries, which are a favorite treat for birds.

This adaptable plant flourishes best in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils and can handle full shade. If you want the most vibrant fall colors, try giving it some sunny exposure! It's a low-maintenance gem that can thrive in various soils and urban settings. Just remember that it does appreciate a regular trim to keep it looking its best. Be sure to plant it where there's plenty of space to spread and grow, as it likes to stretch out. However, it’s best to avoid growing it on wood or shingle walls because its holdfasts can be tricky to remove and may damage painted surfaces, gutters, shutters, or wiring if not kept in check.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
