Wedelia acapulcensis var. hispida

Also known as Zexmenia, Orange Zexmenia, Hairy Wedelia, Wedelia, Texas Creeping-oxeye

Texas creeping-oxeye, also known as Wedelia, is a charming little shrub that grows between 8 inches and 3 feet tall. Its base is woody, while the leafy parts are nice and herbaceous, making it quite unique. You can find this delightful plant ranging from central and west Texas down into Mexico. The woody branches spread roots and gradually help the plant expand its circumference. The upper stems are covered with stiff hairs, giving them a rough texture when touched. The foliage is a lovely gray-green, with leaves that feel slightly harsh on both sides, varying from lobed shapes at the base to narrow, unlobed forms with softly toothed or smooth margins. The flowers are small but striking, forming showy heads with beautiful yellow to orange rays that brighten the petals of each flower, standing tall on long stems that stretch above the leaves. You can enjoy these daisy-like flowers blooming from summer through frost.

This woody-stemmed plant stays evergreen in the southern regions, while it may die back in northern areas. It’s known to be hardy, long-lived, and blooms generously throughout its life. Not to mention, it’s a favorite for creating lovely low shrub displays in full sun.

Zexmenia, another delightful choice, shares similar traits: long-lived, drought-tolerant, and easy to grow! Just remember that providing it with excess water or shade can cause it to get a bit leggy, so be sure to trim it back from time to time. Zexmenia remains evergreen with woody stems in the southern range, while it typically dies back to the ground further north.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.

When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.

Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.

5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.

Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.

Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
