Phlox subulata 'Creeping Pink'
Phlox subulata, fondly known as moss phlox, mountain phlox, or creeping phlox, is a charming, upright, mat-forming perennial that thrives in sunny spots. It typically grows about 6 inches high but can spread up to 24 inches wide, making it a delightful addition to any garden! This lovely plant features a creeping habit with linear to awl-shaped leaves that keep a touch of green throughout the winter. In mid-spring, it dazzles with tufts of notched flowers. Native to dry, rocky, or sandy regions as well as open woodlands and the scenic slopes of the Appalachians south of Tennessee, moss phlox puts on a show with fragrant, tubular flowers that bloom between April and May. The flowers showcase a beautiful range of colors including red-purple, violet-purple, pink, and even the rare white, each sporting five petal-like, rounded lobes that are notched in a unique pattern. The leaves, which are linear to awl-shaped and lush green, remind us of the moss-like mats this plant is named after. You'll find several delightful cultivars available in the market, showcasing flower colors like blue/purple, pink, red, and white, all of which are sure to attract butterflies and other lovely insect pollinators.
For best results, plant moss phlox in humusy, medium-moisture, well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight. In areas with hot and humid summers, they appreciate a bit of dappled sun too. Good drainage is key to keeping these happy, and they thrive in sandy or gravelly soils, enduring hot, dry conditions better than many other phlox species. Under ideal conditions, these charming plants will self-seed and spread cheerfully. After the beautiful flowers fade, simply cut back the stems by half to maintain their shape, encourage denser growth, and stimulate a lovely reblooming show.

Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
