Ilex vomitoria 'Nana'
Ilex vomitoria, known as Yaupon, thrives in a range of habitats from Virginia to Florida, Arkansas, and Texas, embracing sandy woods, sunny dunes, open fields, forest edges, and even wet swamps. The charming dwarf cultivar 'Nana' is beautifully rounded and can reach a diameter of 0.5 to 1.5 inches. Its long, dark green leaves emerge as a lovely yellow-green when new. The lovely flowers of female shrubs, once pollinated, give way to persistent red drupes, though they are not as common or striking as those found on the species counterparts. 'Nana' typically grows to a height of three to five feet and spreads three to six feet wide.
In Native American tradition, the leaves have been used to create an emetic drink, promoting a sense of cleansing when enjoyed in larger amounts.
This adaptable plant flourishes in average soil that ranges from moist to medium, enjoying everything from full sun to partial shade. Whether in the sun or under shade, it can thrive in various soil conditions, showcasing its intrinsic resilience—more drought-tolerant than many other hollies. A little pruning in the winter is helpful when necessary. Remember, this species is dioecious, meaning it has separate male and female plants. For our female plants to bear their lovely fruit, a male pollinator is essential. And if you’re seeking to maintain its natural charm, consider removing root suckers unless you wish for it to spread naturally.

Spring Shipping:
Orders are shipped within 7-10 business days. We will email you if there are expected delays.
When you order plants from our nursery, you can expect them to arrive in the best possible condition. Our team carefully packs each order using sturdy, biodegradable packaging materials.
Your plants' appearance may vary depending on the season and their current growth stage. We may cut back the leafy growth of some plants to prepare them for shipment and transplanting.
5 Gallon and Up: Any plant purchased to ship over 5 Gallons will be shipped bare root. This means we will remove the plant from its original pot, remove the soil surrounding the roots, and wrap the roots with a biodegradable plastic bag. This reduces weight and the likelihood of damage during shipping.
Once your plants arrive, it is essential to plant them as soon as possible. This will help them rebound and thrive. If you cannot plant immediately, water regularly and keep the roots off heat-conducting surfaces.
Newly transplanted plants often require more water until their roots are well established. Plan to water them 1-3 times weekly for the first few months.
